  • "It's no one else's business how much I drink. I can handle it." REALITY: If you're drunk and lose your keys and then have to pound on the door until your roommate wakes up and lets you in, that affects your roommate. In fact, studies show that one person's drinking habits can affect an average of five people other than the drinker. Still think its nobody else's business?
  • Approximately 30% of students who drank in the past year claimed that they had driven after drinking alcohol during the past 30 days.
  • Binge drinking is a common pattern of excessive alcohol use in the United States. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism defines binge drinking as a pattern of drinking that brings a persons blood alcohol concentration (BAC) to 0.08 grams percent or above. This typically happens when men consume 5 or more drinks, and when women consume 4 or more drinks, in about 2 hours.
  • Family, twin, and adoption studies have implicated the hereditary nature of alcohol dependence; the most current findings are showing that neurotransmitter receptors in the brain for serotonin and other chemicals such as GUTA are somehow involved in a tendency towards alcoholism.
