- Studies show that children of alcoholic parents are at greater risk than other children of becoming alcoholics.
- Most teenagers are not abusing alcohol, as current research indicates that over 60 percent of individuals that are between the ages of 12-20 have not had a drink in the past month.
- Because of the way alcohol affects the brain; drinking alcohol can lead to a loss of coordination, poor judgment, slowed reflexes, distorted vision, memory lapses, and even blackouts.
- According to a current report from the U.S. Task Force on Community Preventive Services, there is little evidence that designated programs actually reduce the rate of drunk driving and alcohol-related crashes, as few designated drivers actually completely abstain from drinking. The report concluded that in a great many instances, the least-intoxicated person is chosen to be the driver, which defeats the purpose of the program.
